Gulf Materials

Gulf Materials (Gulf), a material handling company located at One Eighth Street, Braddock, PA was incorporated in 2004 mainly to offload coal from the Monongahela River to ground and then be loaded into trucks to be delivered to utility companies to generate electricity.  GULF began offloading coal in the summer of 2005 at a rate of 20,000 tons per month initially with 5 employees.  Presently, GULF is offloading 75,000 tons of coal per month with 29 full time employees.  It is anticipated that by the end of 2010 GULF will be offloading 85,000 tons of coal per month or an annual coal tonnage of 1,000,000 tons.  Gulf intends to continue to expand the payroll.

Gulf has also offloaded and loaded coal and other materials from both the river and the ground with its floating and land side equipment.  Further, company officials have been exploring new business ventures including green initiatives to promote energy efficiency.  Indeed, Gulf's commitment to improve the environment and enery efficiency.  Indeed, Gulf's commitment to improve the environment and energy efficiency is illustrated by Gulf commissioning an energy audit by the Duquesne University Small Business Development Center.  As a result, Gulf invested in energy efficiency practices and improvements to its facility and operations.  The Enterprise Zone Corp. of Braddock awarded BEEP (Business Energy Efficiency Program) to acknowledge Gulf's efforts.

Gulf's President Cliff Wise said "The Braddock location has been a good fit for our company.  We've hired a number of local residents as part of our great workforce.  The Enterprise Zone helped us get started with development financing and they've engendered great relationships with other businesses and organizations".

Gulf has been a good neighbor in Braddock and the Mon Valley region as they have hired numerous local workers and donated time in support of local communities.
