Gray Welding is a family-owned business that started as a small welding business in West Homestead in 1985 by Gus Gray and his wife Barbara. By 1989 Gray Welding moved to Keystone Commons in East Pittsburgh. The business grew steadily, ultimately leasing 8,500 sq. ft. of space. The Grayys son, Bernie, joined the company in 1991. By 2002, realizing the need for more space to accommodate more employees and increasing business opportunities, the firm moved to a new location in Braddock.
With the assistance of a loan from the Enterprise Zone Corp. of Braddock, Gray Welding acquired an industrial building owned by Motor Coils and established a 47,000 sq. ft. shop. Gray Welding now employs a workforce of 15 comprised of 10 welders, 2 estimators, 2 sales representatives and 1 administrative position.
Gray contracts with major companies such as U.S. Tool & Die, Guardian Construction and Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.
Various types of welding are performed with materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, cast iron, AR materials, hardsurfacing, tool steels and others. Types of projects include structural, mill work, portable and machining in conjunction with reliable subcontractors.
